Age
Requirements |
Age eligibility for Fall 2007 or Spring 2008 is based on the player's age as of
July 31, 2007. For example, for a player to be eligible for the under 12 age
group in the Fall 2007 season, he/she must have been under the age of 12 (i.e.,
not yet turned 12) as of July 31, 2007. If he/she turns 12 on or after August
1, 2007, he/she is eligible. Town registrars are expected to maintain proof of
age on file for all players (a photocopy of a birth certificate, passport,
naturalization certificate, alien registration card, or similar form), and must
be prepared to produce such documentation if requested by the league. Age
requirements cannot be waived, except in rare circumstances when needed to
comply with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) -- see BAYS
by-laws for further information on requesting ADA waivers.

Frequently
Asked Questions |
1.Must we live in Norfolk to register with S.C. Norfolk?
2.Should I enroll my child for indoor soccer, even though it is
different to outdoor?
3.Why must we register so early before the season start as my child
is not sure which sport to play?
4.What does my registration fee provide?
Must we live in Norfolk to register with S.C. Norfolk?
The primary requirement by the Boston Area Youth Soccer (BAYS) organization is
residency in the town you wish to register, however there are automatic waivers
available for certain circumstances:
-
A player who lives in town A and attends school in town B may play for either
town.
-
A player who moves from town A to town B and has played as a resident for town
A for at least two of the previous three spring soccer seasons may play for
either town. Such previous play need not have been with BAYS.
-
A player who has parents living in different towns may play for either town.
Additionally, waivers at the discretion of BAYS may be granted for the
following:
-
A player who lives in a town that has no team or no opening on a team at the
players age level may play on an appropriate team in an adjacent town.
-
Adjacent towns that have an insufficient number of players to form two full
teams at an age level may combine players to form a team, which would be placed
in an appropriately competitive division.
-
Providing access to a Division 1 team in another town for a qualified player if
the local town does not have such a team.
Should I enroll my child for indoor soccer, even though it is
different to outdoor?
Yes, as indoor soccer allows your child to further develop his/her soccer
skills during seasons when outdoor play is not practical. The speed and
challenge of indoor soccer provides a great learning environment as well as
maintaining physical and mental fitness for the game. Indoor soccer provides
opportunities to continue developing ball control, kicking, passing,
decision-making, and other critical soccer skills in a fast paced environment.
Additionally it helps build a team spirit with players your child may be with
on an outdoor team the following season.
Why must we register so early before the season start as my child is
not sure which sport to play?
S.C. Norfolk is bound by dates set by the BAYS organizing body. Failure by us
to meet these dates will mean exclusion from the forthcoming season. It is
quite a task for BAYS to develop rosters and schedules for all competing towns
and be ready for the season.
What does my registration fee provide?
S.C. Norfolk is a non-profit organization. The registration fee covers our
membership dues to BAYS, insurance for each player, purchase and maintenance of
equipment used for fields and by coaches, payment for referees at home games, a
periodic newsletter, coach licensing, and miscellaneous operating expenses
incurred by S.C. Norfolk. In addition, the indoor soccer registration fee
covers the cost of renting the facility used for game play.
